I have been in quite the funk lately in terms of writing. Every now and then I’ll have an idea for a post, write a draft, and later decide it sucks. Having been an editor for a decade now, I find it very hard not to be critical of my own writing.
So I was thinking I’d try to do the WordPress Daily Prompts as an attempt to get the creativity flowing again. Of course, I meant to start this yesterday, which turned into a decision to start in February. But I think people spend too much time waiting for the first of the month, for the weekend, whatever. Start today.
Today’s prompt can be found here and reads:
“Give your newer sisters and brothers-in-WordPress one piece of advice based on your experiences blogging. If you’re a new blogger, what’s one question you’d like to ask other bloggers?”
I’ll admit that I’m not a particularly experienced blogger, but the best advice I’ve ever heard regarding any type of writing is to simply keep going. The Pioneer Woman has recommended that you post every day, and of course, Neil Gaiman has wonderful advice for aspiring authors. “Keep writing” sounds like a pretty basic concept, but it’s easier said than done.
For bloggers who’ve been around for a while, what’s your favorite way to break free from writer’s block? Having a glass of wine? Browsing motivational cat memes on the Internet?
